Liverpool’s on loan goalkeeper Loris Karius believes he could still play for the Reds at some point in the future.
The German was shipped off on a two-year loan deal to Turkish side Besiktas at the start of last season, but has endured an indifferent time in Istanbul.
However, Karius feels hope remains: “Will I play for Liverpool again? Of course it’s an option and a good option to still be there,” he said, as per the Daily Mail. “Maybe I’ll play for them again, you never know. It’s still far ahead.
“If it’s not Liverpool, it will be another decent team, so I’m not worried about any scenario. The Premier League is the best league so it is interesting of course. If you play in England you’re always a bit more in the spotlight, but I’m at a good club now so we will see what happens at the end of the season.”
OPINION
Karius is obviously deciding to keep his options open, but there won’t be many Liverpool fans who are keen to see him back manning the sticks for the Reds. We’ve seen so far this season, with free agent signing Adrian’s terrific performances in place of the injured Alisson, just how valuable a quality back up ‘keeper is. If Karius was to return from his loan spell to play a big part for Jurgen Klopp’s team in the future, then it would only be as a number two behind the former Roma man. Is he a better option in that role than Adrian? Given what the Spaniard has done since joining the club, you’d have to say no. With that said, it’s not looking good that the 26-year-old will be a Reds player beyond next summer. The fact that he has lost his place as Besiktas’ first choice stopper this season isn’t exactly encouraging for his prospects on Merseyside moving forward.
